Southern Rust
(Puccinia polysora)
Symptoms: Orange, round, 1/16th-inch pustules primarily on upper leaf surface.
Risk Factors: Disease is favored by warmer temperatures (77-82⁰ F). This disease can cause yield loss if infection occurs early and conditions are conducive for disease development.
Management: Plant resistant hybrids and apply timely fungicide applications when practical (fungicide efficacy table).
